10 अप्रैल किसान आंदोलन का समर्थन करने गांधी पहुंचे पश्चिमी चंपारण 10 April Gandhi arrives at West Champaran to support the peasant movement

ब्रिटेन शासित भारत सरकार की किसान विरोधी नीति का विरोध करने को 10 अप्रैल 1917 को महात्मा गांधी बिहार के चंपारण जिले में पहुंचे थे। अंग्रेज पश्चिमी चंपारण के किसानों से जबरदस्ती नील की खेती करवाते थे। किसानों को उनके खेत के 20 में से 3 हिस्सों में नील की खेती करने के लिए मजबूर किया जा रहा था। बापू किसानों पर अत्याचार के विरोध में सत्याग्रह करने 10 अप्रैल 1917 को इस जिले में पहुंचे। उन्हें अशांति पैदा करने के आरोप में पुलिस ने हिरासत में ले लिया। महात्मा गांधी की गिरफ्तारी से लोग भड़क गये। उन्होंने पुलिस स्टेशन सहित कोर्ट के बाहर प्रदर्शन करना शुरू कर दिया। आंदोलन ने जोर पकड़ा और अंततः अंग्रेजों को चंपारण कृषि विधेयक बनाना पड़ा। परिणामस्वरूप 135 सालों से चली आ रही नील की खेती धीरे-धीरे बंद हो गई। On 10 April 1917, Mahatma Gandhi arrived in Champaran district of Bihar to protest against the anti-farmer policy of the British Government of India. The British forced the farmers of West Champaran to cultivate indigo. Farmers were being forced to cultivate indigo in 3 out of 20 parts of their fields. Bapu arrived in this district on 10 April 1917 to protest Satyagraha against the atrocities on farmers. He was taken into custody by the police on charges of causing unrest. People were agitated by Mahatma Gandhi's arrest. They started demonstrating outside the court including the police station. The movement gained momentum and eventually the British had to enact the Champaran Agriculture Bill.
